If you happen to be new to the world of tea, here's a description of how ....
The tea leaves are placed in the pot and water is added. Ideally, the tea leaves should be able to move freely in the teapot as the tea steeps. This ensures maximum contact between the tea leaves and the water.
When the tea has finished steeping, you put the strainer in the cup and strain the tea to avoid getting tea leaves in the cup. Alternatively, transfer the tea from the brewing pot to a serving pot where it can be kept warm for a while.
(You should not put the tea leaves in the strainer and pour water over them - it will be far too short a time for the tea to develop any flavor)
