Bancha is picked later than sencha, in this case around the turn of the month June-July. The leaves are larger, and the caffeine content lower. The drink is bright, the taste fresh and light.

Description / Bancha - Organic

Bancha is picked later than sencha. The leaves are larger, and the caffeine content lower. The drink is light, the taste is fresh and light. A classic everyday tea!
Our bancha comes from Isagawa in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan's largest tea district. The second picking, from which this tea comes, takes place around the turn of the month June-July. The plantation is surrounded by forest at 450 meters above sea level. The cultivar is 90% Yabukita, and the rest is a mixture of several different cultivars.

Tastes just like you think a Japanese green tea should taste, in a good way. Not exciting but a good tea.

It is not a beginner's game
Review by Stephanie
This was my free sample on my first order (thanks, it was an exciting choice) but this was not my cup of tea. There's a floweriness to it that probably passes for elegant but I have a bit of a problem with, but I think it's a tea that goes well with both food and sweets.
I think bancha is what the local chocolate shop offers at their tastings and the tea tastes very much like the tea the local sushi place offers.

Fresh and light green tea with a mild flavor
Review by Benedetta
The subtle flavor is the strength of the tea when drunk with food.
Personally, I drink Bancha in the morning just before breakfast: it prepares the stomach to receive the food.
But Bancha is also suitable for any time of the day; it has a slightly lower caffeine content than other green teas and has a harmonizing effect on the body.
