Description /
Hojicha - bancha
Hojicha is a Japanese specialty that is becoming increasingly popular with us as well. It is made in the same way as sencha (steamed, dried, shaped), but then roasted. The taste becomes ripe, soft and slightly sweet. Because roasting removes a lot of caffeine, it is common in Japan to drink it in the evening. It is also common for young children to drink hojicha. The art of a good hojicha is to take a good ground tea and not toast it too hard or long. The taste may otherwise be smoky and / or rough. We buy our hojicha directly from a plantation in Uji outside Kyoto, where hojicha is an everyday tea. The raw material is taken at the pruning of the bushes after the first harvest. Because it is lightly roasted, it becomes soft and delicate with a long aftertaste.

Exceeded all expectations.
Lovely earthy taste with a slight smokiness.
The aroma is heavy with some freshness.
Easy to like.
Its low caffeine content makes it good as an evening drink, alone and in peace and quiet.

different but tasty
Review byMagnus
This tea smells like fish and sea to me. but when you brew it, it becomes a more mild sea tone mixed with soft nut tones. But very good to mix in with regular green teas to get a little "saltier" and earthier tone.

A great taste of Japan
Review byMagnus Andersson
I searched long and hard for the tea that I drank so much during my time in Japan and finally landed on Amanda at Tecentralen. This delicious tea with a great taste of Japan is both affordable and easy to order. The delivery time is short and I only have to walk to the mailbox to pick it up. Hojicha from Tecentralen is recommended!

A mild tea with a pleasant taste
Review bySam
Received a sample with my last order and was very pleasantly surprised. The flavor is "high" and pleasantly mild. Easy to brew for a tea amateur as the water can boil to one hundred degrees. Just run the kettle all the way and pour over the leaves!

New favorite
Review byHenrik
After the first cup, this tea ended up on my favorite list.
The taste is mild, but rich. It has great aroma and long aftertaste. The taste is a bit special and reminds a lot of Genmaicha (riste), for those who have tried that tea. You can brew 3-4 times on the same tea leaves and still get a good tea.
I was surprised to say the least by the brewing instructions 2 tablespoons of tea per cup! This is not as strange as it sounds. The tea is very light and has great volume. The 100g I ordered filled two large bags.
