In June 1030, Olav Haraldsson landed in Selånger and set out for Norway to reclaim the throne and Christianize the country. He was killed at the Battle of Stiklestad and buried in Trondheim, formerly known as Nidaros. Soon after his death, wonders began to take place on the site, and so construction of the cathedral began there. In the Middle Ages, the route to Nidaros Cathedral was one of the most important pilgrimage routes (after Jerusalem, Rome and Santiago de Compostella). At the time of the Reformation, pilgrimages were banned and the route fell into disrepair. Now the trail has been restored, and the number of walkers is increasing every year.
We wanted to recreate the feeling of forest and land in this tea blend, as a tribute to the beautiful St. Olavsleden, which runs through Östersund where we have our physical store. In addition to organic black tea, it contains both spruce needles and juniper berries. It took some time to make this tea, because our experienced supplier, who helped us find the ingredients, had actually never seen anything like it. One should be careful with the word "unique", but here it is close at hand.
This is a tea that goes extra well with lunch or a little stronger coffee, perhaps in the thermos out in the woods with hearty sandwiches. We often hear from our customers that they were a little hesitant at first, but that St. Olav lands as a real favorite after a few cups.
St:Olav was named"Sweden's Best Local Tea Blend" in a competition held by the podcast Produktivitéet. You can listen to the podcast here.
